Sherman papers, ca. 1895-1953.

Summary: Correspondence, printed material and a small collection of photographs relating to mines in Bisbee, Cananea, Douglas, Globe and Morenci, Arizona with an emphasis on the Sacramento Hill mine in Bisbee. There are also photographs and a photograph album with images of family and friends. Correspondence is to Sherman from Arthur Foote about the Copper Queen mine operations. One pamphlet soliciting new mine employees is present, dated October 1917. It describes requirements for employment, wages earned, hours worked and rights of the miner and presents the mining corporation view of the Bisbee Deportation. It was issued by the Loyalty League, Citizen's Protective League, Phelps Dodge Corporation, and othe mining corporations in Bisbee. Photographs are of miners and and mine equipment taken in the 1940s to 1950s. A few loose album pages show distant views of Sacramento Hill about 1919 to 1920. Family photographs date from 1895 to the 1930s. These include a Walter Lubken photograph of Boise, Idaho, homes in Colorado and Idaho, remains of the Yuma plank road, a picnic in Miller Canyon of the Huachuca Mountains, a home in Grass Valley, friends Ralph Ellinwood and Allan Hood, and an image of Gerald Sherman in his office working with plans.

Biographical note: Mine superintendent, Bisbee, Ariz. Sherman worked for the Phelps Dodge Corporation in the early 1900s. He was employed at the Copper Queen Consolidated Mining Company, and later managed the Sacramento Hill Mine in Bisbee.
